Building on our foundations - promotions within DTW1991

We are delighted to share with you the news of a number of promotions within DTW1991. These promotions reflect not only the exceptional performance of the individuals concerned but are also indicative of the increasing maturity of our business. These appointments are key in positioning us to deliver on our strategic ambitions and also to support our business partners in achieving their goals with DTW1991.
We hope you will join us in congratulating, John, John, Alex, Richard, Colin, Ryan and Amrit in their new roles.
John Spenceley is promoted to Syndicate Director of Underwriting
John’s role as Head of UK/International has broadened significantly during the last 12-18 months as he has taken the lead on technical underwriting issues within the syndicate. This new role extends those responsibilities and John will now be responsible for oversight and co-ordination of the syndicate’s technical underwriting approach, reinsurer relationships, wordings and technical training for all lines of business.
John’s appointment will enable him to develop the syndicate’s underwriting oversight across all syndicate classes of business.
John Cowell is promoted to Deputy Class Underwriter, UK and International
John joined the syndicate in July 2017 after re-locating back from Australia where he worked with Pen Underwriting. With his extensive market experience in the UK, this promotion reflects the significant impact John has already made within the UK and International team. John will support Ben Warren in the management and development of the UK and International account.
Alex Mann is promoted to Class Underwriter, North America
Alex Mann has been promoted to Class Underwriter, North America and has assumed underwriting leadership of the USA and Canadian insurance business. Alex is a member of the founding team of DTW1991 and has been with the syndicate since 2012 after graduating from the University of Essex with a business degree. Alex will assume senior underwriting responsibilities as well as be responsible for the management of the underwriting team and the North American business planning process.
Richard Clarke is promoted to Head of Delegated Underwriting Management
Richard has led the Delegated Underwriting function since joining the syndicate when it commenced trading on 01 January 2013 after a long career at JLT. In this role, Richard’s duties will be extended to include oversight of delegated underwriting matters within the syndicate and be responsible for the continued development of our delegated underwriting regulatory framework. He will also have a stronger liaison role with Lloyd’s to assist the DTW senior management team in the development of our overall business.
Colin Passingham is promoted to Delegated Underwriting Manager
Colin Passingham has been promoted to Delegated Underwriting Manager and will take the lead on day to day delegated underwriting matters for the syndicate. Colin has over 15 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s binding authority market, at both broker and managing agency organisations and since joining DTW1991 in 2014 has worked closely with Richard Clarke to develop our delegated underwriting capabilities. He will assume the role of our coverholders’ and brokers’ key contact for delegated underwriting matters.
Ryan Husbands is promoted to Underwriter, Accident and Health
Ryan has been promoted to the position of Underwriter with the Accident and Health team. Ryan joined the Accident and Health team in 2015, working alongside Dipesh Patel on the leisure travel account. He had previously worked in the syndicate’s delegated underwriting team. Ryan is also involved with the management of our travel and specialty product coverholders within this business unit and in underwriting open market PA and travel business. Ryan was recently appointed to the Central Committee for BIBA.
Amrit Chopra is promoted to Wordings Technician
Amrit Chopra has been appointed as a Wordings Technician for the syndicate. Amrit has been working with the syndicate for 18 months on a contract basis assisting with the development of the syndicate’s benchmark UK wordings and in providing wording support to the underwriting teams. We are delighted that Amrit has joined the syndicate as a permanent member of the team.
